A PLACE FOR EVERY WINDOW

Let’s get you
to the big screen.

Here’s how LocalScreen is designed to bring your computer and TV together. The apps are still in development, so this guide is a preview of the setup.

Downloads are on their way. Public Windows and Mac installers and the Fire TV store listing aren’t available yet. We’ll link them from the downloads section once they’re ready. You don’t need to change your TV’s security settings to follow this guide.

What you’ll need

  • Windows: the initial target is Windows 11, version 24H2 or later, on an x64 PC.
  • Mac: the initial target is an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 14.2 or later.
  • TV: a compatible Fire OS device running the LocalScreen receiver. Vega-based Fire TV devices use a different platform and aren’t supported by this Android receiver.
  • Network: your computer and TV connected to the same local network, with permission for them to communicate.

These are development targets, not a completed device compatibility list. Confirmed support will be published with the first release. Intel Macs and Windows on ARM have not been qualified.

Connect your devices

  1. Once downloads are available, install the desktop app and the companion receiver on your TV.
  2. Open LocalScreen on the TV and wait for its ready screen.
  3. Connect from the computer using the TV’s local connection details. Both devices must be on the same network.
  4. Check the connection identity and approve the pairing on your TV. Approval gives that computer permission to connect.

You can forget paired computers from the TV app when you no longer want them to have access.

Choose the window. Keep control.

Select the window you want to share from the desktop app. On Mac, you’ll need to grant the required screen and computer-audio permissions through the system prompts.

About computer audio

Audio is your computer’s playback output. It can include sound from other apps and notifications, not just the window you chose. LocalScreen does not use your microphone or camera.

Pause or finish

Use your TV remote to pause the TV’s picture and sound. This is a local viewing pause; the computer can still be capturing. To end sharing, use Stop on your computer. LocalScreen does not substitute the full desktop if the selected window disappears.

If something doesn’t connect

  • Check that both devices are on the same local network. Guest Wi-Fi can prevent devices from reaching one another.
  • Make sure the LocalScreen receiver is open and ready on the TV.
  • Verify that the address and displayed connection identity match your TV.
  • Check the desktop app’s capture permissions and any app-specific local-network permission prompts.
  • If a protected video appears blank, its service or operating system may block capture. LocalScreen does not bypass those protections.

Specific network recovery and output-device behavior are still being tested. Release notes and support contact details will accompany the public apps.
